Janome Gathering Foot “G”

Using the gathering attachment to apply a gathered layer of fabric

You can use Gathering Foot “G”, along with a gathering attachment, to gather a piece of fabric as you attach it to an ungathered piece. With the gathering foot on the machine:

  • Attach the gathering attachment
  • Open the front cover, and loosen the screw on the front
  • Slide the attachment behind the screw, and tighten in place.
  • Set up the machine for a three-thread over-edge stitch – the needle in the left position.
  • Use a tight needle tension and a tight lower looper.
  • Set your stitch length to “4”
  • Set your differential feed to “2”, and be sure the blade is in the “up” position
  • Put the fabric right-sides together
  • Place the fabric to be gathered underneath the attachment
  • Feed the top fabric over the top of the attachment
  • Hand crank a couple of stitches to attach the two layers together. Remember to always crank the wheel toward you. As you begin stitching, hold on to the top layer of fabric while letting the lower layer feed through. The machine creates perfect gathers as it attaches the fabric.

Gathering one layer of fabric

Gathering Foot “G” allows you to easily make ruffles along the edge of your fabric.

  • With the foot on the machine, set up for a three thread over-edge stitch with the needle in the left position. Use a tight needle tension and a tight lower looper.
  • Set your stitch length to “4”
  • Set your differential feed to “2” and be sure the blade is in the “up” position.
  • Place your fabric under the foot and begin serging.

The machine creates perfect gathers. You now have a piece of ruffled fabric to attach to your project.
