Janome Gathering Foot

Creating gathers

The bottom of the gathering foot is specially designed to feed the fabric so it gathers between each stitch. To use this foot, begin by adjusting the tension for the needle thread to between 3 and 6. To change the density of your gathers, change your stitch length. The longer the stitch, the more gathers you’ll have. Try starting with a stitch length of 4, and then adjust up or down.

  • Attach the gathering foot to your machine, making sure that the bar on the back is over the ledge on the ankle.
  • Begin stitching

You’ve created a row of gathers!
